Aikido Shinryukan Wanaka
Aikido was developed in Japan by Morihei Uyeshiba and is based on Bujutsu, which were the Japanese warrior arts. Aikido strives to develop coordination between the mind and the body and is a powerful form of self-defense. This martial art allows a person to protect him or herself from attack from a single or multiple attackers. Aikido uses circular movements to avoid an attacker and then employs holds and throws to subdue the attacker.
In addition, students of Aikido practice weapons techniques with the Jo (staff) and Bokken (sword).
Aikido Shinryukan Wanaka's Dojo is in the Performance Room (behind the Gym) at Mt Aspiring College on Plantation Rd.
